In this week’s interview, we have the pleasure of introducing you to Simran Mohinani, Founder and CEO of MOHLIA.

MOHLIA is Simi’s third company, which she launched after writing three books. Simi had always imagined herself taking over her family’s business, but after a series of events caused by Covid-19, including evacuating her apartment of 2 years within hours notice, Simi found herself missing the infinity flowers that had previously filled her home. She tried looking for them online after she got home, but they were all either too expensive or didn’t ship globally. Heartbroken but inspired, she decided to start her own version of this concept in Asia, and within a year and a half, she had become the continent’s leading and preeminent infinite flower brand.

Let’s start with the timeless 60 seconds ‘elevator pitch’, what’s yours?

MOHLIA bridges the gap between luxury and innovation in the flower industry and provides a global solution to sustainability and affordability with real flowers, preserved to last for years to come. Our flowers are grown in Ecuador, arranged in Asia, and shipped worldwide for unbeatable prices, and with styles for everyone in your life.

At one point or another, it is inevitable that challenges will pop up in business. What’s your approach to overcoming challenges?

Teamwork makes the dream work always! Any challenge I can’t solve, I hand it off to a team member who holds a strength that may provide a solution. Also, why be a lone soldier when you can have an army behind you? I’m very blessed to tackle my battles with a strong force of people who have the same passion and resilience as me.

Sales and marketing are two very important, but different, functions within a business. What is your number one sales tip?

Always do your research and check the market around you, this way you will always be ten steps ahead of your competition and will be able therefore to offer customers a better product for a better price, which is how buying interest fathoms in the first place.

What is your favourite business tool or system?

Using Shopify is truly something that I recommend to everyone starting a business. Shopify helps you keep track of sales, inventory, different vendors, forecasts trends, and reminds you of upcoming global events to prep for, etc. It is a vastly underrated gadget, that if utilised to its full potential, with the help of running ads, can help you work from anywhere, all the time and have your money working for you essentially. Retiring early has never looked so easy. (I’m never retiring but still)

It is important to celebrate your achievements, particularly during the difficult times. How do you celebrate your achievements?

Always with family and friends, we love throwing events like launch parties, collaborations, showcases, pop-ups, etc. So it’s always super fun and done to the nines with us at MOHLIA. They are all usually also always done in venues that are open space so even with restrictions we are able to invite every one of our supporters and that’s even more heartwarming and exciting.

Being in business is like an education in itself, what are the three most important lessons you’ve learned in your business?

Always keep your head up high. Trials and tribulations, people’s comments and disbelief in you, is all a part of the process. It’s like going to a Chiro, they break you to make you. I’ve also come to formulate a system for my work-life balance, making time for myself, my family, my friends, my responsibilities at work, spiritual growth and my emotional, physical and mental health. Tying into this is my third lesson and one that I tell everyone wanting to become an entrepreneur: time management and thorough organisation is key. Have a system and stick to it. Find what works with you and ride it all the way through. I have my to-do list, want to achieve list, all my appointments, structured and backed up somewhere. It’s important to know what you’re doing when your job runs 24/7 and you’re your own boss.

What business-related book or podcast has inspired you the most?

Ride of a Lifetime by Bob Iger. Truly inspirational, as a Disneyphile and as a lover of all things business.

The purpose of such an interview is to promote your business. Please tell us, who is your dream client?

My dream flower recipient, which may come true sooner than we think, because of my amazing new PR firm based in Los Angeles is the Kardashians. Any of them. Kris, Kim, Kourtney, Khloe, Kylie, Kendall. That would be the honour of a lifetime. Client? Probably still Kris Jenner as she definitely has 1,000 people to send gifts to on a regular basis.
